Actually two words can describe it.
It Sucks!

When things go bad--no job growth--coupled with industry contractions and job losses--like this picture shows; it means that a lot of people suffer. For many its not their fault they lost their job; its beyond their control. The thing of it is, when it happens like this a lot of people are caught unprepared.
But:
"When you are thirsty, it's too late to dig a well"
~ Japanese Proverb
No doubt a lot of people feel the reality of that today given what has happened over the past year, with our economic and financial outlook for much of the nation. Lots of "thirsty" people, looking for a "well" to drink from. Let's assume a best case scenario - you are secure in your current job or profession and don't anticipate that changing. I hope that's the case.
But if something happens that you (or your employer) do not anticipate (like bosses and executives with a major in greed and a minor in stupidity that wreck industries and economies) will you be one of the thirsty looking for a well?
If you can't find a well ... can you dig one? Do you know where to dig?
Would it not be wise to do a little preparation work before hand ... just in case?
The point I'm getting at, which is the point of this website, is that you need to educate yourself and gain some control by having something to fall back on in tough times. And to have in place so you can profit even more from the good times!
There are a lot of good books about business, making money and becoming self-employed that I have collected over the years that have withstood the test of time (and up and down economies). This weekend I plan to get them down from my bookshelf and make a list of them and why I think they might be of use to you in educating and preparing yourself so that you have more control over your financial future. I will put that in an article to share with visitors to my website.
Please watch for that article early next week. UPDATE - THIS HAS BEEN DONE - SEE MY ARTICLE: "Not "Get Rich Quick" - GET SMART QUICK
