This is called "working from the buy-side".

How we do it:

We use Search Engines and the Internet to look for and communicate with businesses for sale or are of interest that match what the buyers or investors are looking for. We contact the business owner/seller about our buyer/investors interest in their industry and possibly in their business. Then, if suitable, we send the buyer or investors a report (called a Business Profile) telling about the business (but not disclosing the identity of the owner or name of the business). If they are interested we introduce them to each other so they can discuss further.

How we get paid:

If the buyer/investor closes a transaction with a business owner/seller we introduce them to we get paid at closing by the business buyer/investor for services as a Finder.
